The RCA-KAIST Master Degree Programme is intended to educate and train the students of leadership caliber from the RCA Member States with the aim to develop them into elite leaders in nuclear energy and quantum engineering in their countries, working in universities, government supported R&D institutions, or government funded enterprises, etc.

This programme has been implemented since March 2003 and the 16 students in total from 6 countries have been accepted up to now.

For graduation, students must accomplish at least 36 credit units consisting of 8 courses (24 units) with the average GPA of 2.5 or higher and a thesis research (12 units), which normally takes 2 years.

20 April 2006
- Application deadline for 2006 Fall Semester
- All documents must be received by the Programme Coordinator by this date.
The documents to be arrived later than this date will be discarded.
- Programme Coordinator will review the documents and submit them to the administration team of KAIST by 30th April 2006 if they are complete.

During June 2006

- Applications will be evaluated by the Student Selection Committee of KAIST.
- Administration team of KAISTwill notify the admission results to the applicants in mid-June whether the candidate is accepted or not..
- The Programme Coordinator and the Programme Assistant will contact admitted applicants for further instruction by e-mail..
- Students should prepare Visa and the one-way air-line ticket. (Arriving date : 24~28 August) and let the Programme Coordinator know for the dormitory reservation. (2 students share a room)

24~28 August 2006
- When the students arrive at Incheon airport, they take a Airport Limousine Bust for Daejeon at Platform 9A in the airport.
- When the students arrive at Daejon, take a taxi to KAIST.
- When arrive at KAIST, should contact the Student Affairs Team (+82-42-869-2162, [email protected]) for a residence application.
- Visit the department office of Nuclear and Quantum Engineering, the Programme Coordinator (011-9401-3821, Prof. Cho), or the Programme Assistant in N7-1 Building in campus.
- The Programme Assistant will guide the students to the dorm and help for settlement.

◇ Students also must submit the receipts of the air fare to the Programme Coordinator for reimbursement.
◇ Students should bring 3 passport-size photographs in order to make a photo ID and other necessary official documents without delay.
◇ Students are advised to bring warm clothes for winter season, November to February in Korea as well as some money for the initial set-up because the scholarship is given at the end of each month.

- 2006 Fall Semester starts.
- Students can take up to 15 credits per semester.
- Students must follow the department and KAIST regulations for the graduation.

NOTE

Applicant for RCA program scholarship.

- must be recommended by his/her National RCA Representative of each Member State shown at http://www.rcaro.org/. (The National RCA Representative is requested to send the candidate name (and organization/institution) to RCA Regional Office in Korea at [email protected] or by fax to 82-42-864-1626)

- In the form of ‘Statement of Financial Resources’, use ‘RCA Program Scholarship’ as a sponsoring organization. The amounts for the tuition and fee = US$ 6,650/year and the living expense = 7,200,000 Won/year for 2 years.

- There is another regular scholarship in KAIST, KAIST Scholarship, that any students can apply for. The amount for the tuition and fee = US$ 6,650/year for 2 years and the living expense = 6,000,000 Won for the 1st year and 3,600,000 Won for the second year. Also for the candidate accepted as KAIST scholarship student, the air fare is not supported.

However we suggest for RCA scholarship applicant to submit another ‘Statement of Financial Resources’ for KAIST Scholarship to increase the possibility of admission in case there is a high competition for RCA Scholarship.

RCA-KAIST program scholarship coverage is as follows ;

- Programme application fee (USD 100)

- Tuition (6,618,000 Won = Approx. USD 6,618 for one academic year)

- Living expenses (600,000 Korean Won/month) : to be paid on 25th of each months for two years.

- The economy-class one-way air fare from the nearest airport of the originating country to Incheon, Korea): to be reimbursed by the programme after arrival. Student should inform the air fare to the Program Coordinator by e-mail before paying for it for the permission. Also student must submit the air plane ticket and its payment receipt issued by the travel company after arrival in KAIST. The local transportation from the air port to Daejon, and the air fare for the departure after
graduating the program is not covered by the program.

◇ NOTE:

- On-campus housing (dormitory) can be arranged but the cost must be borne individually. At present, a shared room by 2 persons at KAIST costs about 390,000 Korean Won/semester and must be paid at the beginning of each semester.

- KAIST does not provide housing for married MS students’ family and the married students, who want to bring his/her family, must bear that the rental apartment near KAIST is quite expensive.

- The meals in the Campus cafeteria cost around 2500 ~ 3000 Korean Won per meal.

- Medical insurance and student medi-care fees: approximately 33,000 Korean Won/month also to be borne individually.
